Coca-Cola is entering the functional sparkling beverage category for the first time with the launch of Simply Pop, a carbonated drink enriched with prebiotics that support digestive health. This new product is an extension of the Simply Juice brand, known for its lemonades and smoothies that emphasize taste and contain up to 30% fruit.
PepsiCo, on the other hand, has acquired the prebiotic soda brand Poppi for $1.65 billion.
Another competitor in this category is Olipop, which recently completed an additional funding round of $50 million, valuing the company at $1.85 billion. Notably, Olipop has become profitable for the first time since its launch in 2018.
