Tightening Regulation on Microplastics in the U.S.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently announced a precedent-setting move aimed at adding microplastics and pharmaceutical residues, for the first time, to the list of substances restricted in drinking water.

This move signals a broader trend of tightening regulation regarding environmental contaminants in food and beverages. The policy aligns with the broader vision of U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who aims to “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA). However, this is only the beginning of the process, and further legislative changes will be required before specific limits for microplastic content in U.S. drinking water are formally defined.
