WHO Pushes for Lower Alcohol Consumption Among Youth
Industry News
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently initiated the creation of a European coalition of health organizations that will work together to reduce alcohol consumption among young people in Europe.
According to the WHO, alcohol is linked to 200 different chronic diseases and causes approximately 800,000 deaths each year across Europe.
The new coalition has identified the trend of reduced alcohol consumption among young people and aims to leverage and expand this momentum. Its main activities will focus on raising awareness among teenagers and young adults about the harms of alcohol. In parallel, the coalition will act as a lobbying group to push for stricter regulations in European countries, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, relying on medical research that demonstrates the health risks associated with alcohol consumption.
